Interview with Susanna Zaraysky

Content Strategist, Material Design at Google

Please, tell a bit about the work you do. How did you first get involved into this work?

I work in the Material Design department at Google and started working on how to design for emerging markets (The Next Billion) in the fall of 2015 and that is when I first learned about how to design apps that work when the user has lost an internet connection.

What is the most challenging part of your work, and what is the most rewarding one?

The most challenging is working with people in different departments who have competing priorities and timelines. The most rewarding is learning about how to make products accessible to people with disabilities.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in pursuing the same career?

Be sure you are fine with working with people from different disciplines (engineering, design, writing, research) and coordinating between them.

Can you give us a sneak peek into your GDG DevFest Romania talk? Why did you choose this subject?

I often lose my internet connection, even at home. It’s valuable to have an app that can work both online and offline.

In your opinion, what are the benefits of attending events like GDG DevFest Romania?

Learning and getting to explore Romania!
