Interview with Márton Kodok

Senior Software Architect at

Please, tell a bit about the work you do. How did you first get involved into this work?

I remember the old days in 90s when there was only a Math magazine, which we usually got in high school. In one of the editions I saw a code segment, and asked the teacher what is that, and he responded it’s HTML, a language to code web pages. Immediately I put myself on a learning curve.
Fast forward to 2018, now I am a backend developer and working hard to scale big projects into cloud, deal with lots of data, write complex analytics systems.

What is the most challenging part of your work, and what is the most rewarding one?

The most challenging part of my current task is to architect a system that fulfills the hybrid data storage nowadays app require. The most rewarding is choosing a flexible Cloud architecture later turning out to let you do a lot more than initially thought off.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in pursuing the same career?

Whenever you start a new project, pursue a new tech stack, and choose Google Cloud Platform, it has amazing hidden gems on ML and BigQuery.

Can you give us a sneak peek into your GDG DevFest Romania talk? Why did you choose this subject?

I’ve seen a lot of sessions that either discuss a new feature with code examples, and only a few discussing architectural components, how to build in Cloud, what the names of Cloud services are, what are their roles. Most of my presentation will be Cloud architecture diagrams.

In your opinion, what are the benefits of attending events like GDG DevFest Romania?

Networking is the most powerful, you can change ideas, learn about new technology stack, see the trend on the market, and find out about new features.
